Arthur Hyde Clarke was born in Hackney, London, in the first quarter of 1871, the son of Edwin H Clarke, a solicitor, and his wife Isabella. He drew "Our Editor" in Funny Wonder (1898), and "Wimble's Reminoosances" in The Halfpenny Comic (1899) and Funny Cuts (1904). Two of his sisters, Caroline and Adeline, were also black and white artists. He died in Edmonton, Middlesex, in the first quarter of 1916, aged 45.
