Acne was a fortnightly comic from Smut creators Tamas Fulep and Clive Ward, which lasted for 31 issues between 1991 and 1993. Dean Wilkinson edited the comic for a period.[1]
It was one of several titles which were clearly imitating Viz, but unlike most it was squarely targeted at children: early issues bore the slogans "not for sale to adults" and "Britain's first alternative kids' comic". Acne can be compared to Oink!, an earlier and better-known attempt at a Viz-for-kids, but Acne contained rather more blue humour, with words such as "shite", "bitch" and "knockers" tossed about with wild abandon. Contributors included Charlie Brooker, Terry Castellani, Dave Colton, Lee Healy, Tony Husband, Dicky Howett, Mervyn Johnston, Nigel Maughan, Nick Miller, Phil Neill, Tim Quinn, Mark Rogers, Lee James Turnock (sometimes signing his work as "Winny"), Clive Ward and Paul Wood.
