Barbara Constance Freeman was born in Ealing, Middlesex, on 29 November 1906, daughter of William Freeman, a writer and secondhand bookseller, and his wife Lucy Constance Freeman, née Rimmington. She was educated at Tiffin Girls' School and Kingston School of Art. Her first job was for Green & Abbott, a wallpaper studio in the West End of London, from 1926 to 1927. After that she went freelance as an illustrator. Starting in the 1940, she worked in children's books, illustrating collections of fairy tales and books by Enid Blyton. She also contributed to nursery comics, including Playhour, and annuals including Blackie's Children's Annual (1934). She started writing and illustrating her own children's books in 1956. She died in May 1999.
