Diana Muriel Garbutt was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire, on 23 September 1932. She wrote war stories for Fleetway's War Picture Library, Battle Picture Library, Air Ace Picture Library, War at Sea Picture Library and Thriller Picture Library in the 1950s and 60s. She also wrote a novel, Black Warrior, about a young girl and a buffalo calf in the foothills of the Himalayas, in 1969. In the early 80s she returned to war comics, writing scripts for DC Thomson's Commando. She died in August 1993.
