Edgar Harry Large was born in Worcester on 4 July 1902, son of Henry Edgar Large, a tobacconist, dealer and basket maker, and his wife Annie, who assisted him in his business. He worked as a microbiologist, eventually running the county laboratory service, and in his spare time drew illustrations and cartoons. He hoped to go full-time as an artist, but never managed it. He drew illustrations and story headings for Sparkler in the 1930s, cartoons for the NALGO union paper in the '30s and '40s, and contributions to various local papers. He died in Wrekin, Shropshire, early in 1983.
