TOP Frank Holland

"Jimmy Squirm and Spooky the Sprat", Big Budget, 1900

Frank Henry Holland was born in Bromley by Bow, Poplar, London, in the third quarter of 1871. His father, Henry, worked variously as a glass bottle packer and a dressmaker. Frank was a scenic artist by 1891, and started working in comics in the 1890s, including a stint as art editor of the story-paper-cum-comic The Gleam. Strips he drew included:

He also drew for Fun (1900) and John Bull (1912-13).

He died in Oxford in the second quarter of 1945, aged 73.
