Henry Francis Gammidge was born in London on 18 February 1915, the son of Francis Norton Gammidge, an accountant, and his wife Joan, née Curtis. He was a cartoonist and comics scriptwriter, writing the James Bond strip, drawn by John McLusky, for the Daily Express from 1958 to 1966. He died in Richmond Upon Thames, Surrey, in the fourth quarter of 1981. His younger brother Ian was also a cartoonist and scriptwriter.
