Valentine, 1959

José María Fernández Bielsa was born in Madrid in 1931. He studied ceramics before becoming an artist in Spanish and French comics. From 1958 to 1971 he also worked in British comics through the agency A.L.I., drawing westerns for Cowboy Comics Library and The Comet ("Kit Carson" and "Buffalo Bill"), adventure for Thriller Picture Library ("Dick Daring of the Mounties"), romance for Valentine, Mirabelle, Famous Romance Picture Library, Boyfriend, Marilyn, Roxy and Marty, and war stories for War Picture Library, Battle Picture Library and Commando. Since the mid '80s he has concentrated on painting.
