Stan Laurel (1890–1965) and Oliver Hardy (1892–1957) were a popular comedy duo who starred in a large number of American films. Stan Laurel began his career in the English music hall before moving to the United States, where he partnered with Oliver Hardy. The actors' screen personas - Stan the well-menaing dimwit, Ollie the loudmouthed boor - were adapted for comics in Britain as well as America.

Laurel and Hardy starred in a regular strip in Film Fun and also appeared in a 1934 issue of Film Picture Stories, one of the few comedy features to run in the latter comic.[1]

In 1966, after the passing of the two actors, the American animation studio Hanna-Barbera produced a cartoon series reviving their characters; a strip based on this incarnation ran in TV Comic. In 2013 they put in an unofficial appearance in The Phoenix, being amongst the undead historical figures to be interviewed by Adam Murphy in "Corpse Talk".
