Paul E. C. Ailey was born in Hackney, London, in the third quarter of 1948, son of Ernest Ailey and his wife Cissy, née Tearle. He married Beryl Driver in 1972. He drew "Adam and Eva" in Jackpot, "The Champ" for Whizzer and Chips and "Captain Klep" in Tornado in the late 1970s. He also frequently ghosted for other artists when they were on holiday.
