Reginald William "Rex" Haydon was born in the first quarter of 1886 in Islington, London. His father William was a stationer who worked for the company who provided the Amalgamated Press with paper, and later an estate agent. Rex joined the AP himself and by 1911 was an editor. At one point he was managing editor of Football Favourite and Sports Budget, his younger brother Percy working under him. He died in Surrey in the fourth quarter of 1936, aged 50.
