Wonderland Tales was launched by the Amalgamated Press on 1 June 1919.

It started off aimed at 5- to 9-year-olds and contained a mixture of comic strips and fairy stories. After about 10 issues it started aiming at 7- to 12-year-olds and included some school stories. It was renamed Wonderland Tales Weekly on 5 June 1920, and the target audience became younger again. It was renamed Wonderland Weekly on 5 July 1920, before it was merged into Young Folks Tales on 23 July 1921.

Writers who contributed included G. R. Hearn, Peter Cavan, Hilda Brierley, Jack Lewis, Basil Baldwin, Morton Pike, Henry T. Johnson, John Grenfell, Horace Philips and C. Louis Pearce. Artists included Philip Swinnerton, Leonard Shields, Philip Hayward, Anton Lock and J. Louis Smyth.
